About This Service
Specialist Support That Preserves Dignity and Independence
Living with a mental health condition or dementia can be profoundly challenging – not just for the individual, but for the whole family. The right care at home can make an enormous difference: maintaining familiar routines, reducing anxiety, and helping the person remain in the place they know and love.
At Mother Care East London Ltd, our mental health and dementia support is delivered by carers who receive specialist training in person-centred dementia care and mental health awareness. We understand that behaviour and communication change over time, and we adapt our approach to meet the individual where they are – every single day.
Our service is flexible, responsive, and co-produced with the individual and their family. We work closely with community mental health teams, memory clinics, and GPs to ensure truly joined-up care.

How We Start
Care at Home in Four Simple Steps
From your first call to a specialist carer being in place, our process is designed to be straightforward, compassionate, and focused on getting things right for the individual from day one.
1
Get in Touch
Call 07510 916481 or complete our referral form. We respond within one working day and discuss the individual’s needs, diagnosis, current situation, and what support is needed.
2
Free Home Assessment
We visit the individual at home to carry out a thorough, no-obligation needs assessment – understanding their daily routine, cognitive or emotional needs, risks, and what matters most to them and their family.
3
Specialist Carer Matching
We match the individual with a carer who has specific experience in dementia or mental health care – taking into account personality, communication style, language, and cultural background.
4
Care Begins
Care starts to a written, agreed plan. We monitor quality continuously, stay in regular contact with the individual’s family and care team, and adapt the support as their needs change over time.

Common Questions
Mental Health and Dementia FAQs
How do your carers support someone with dementia?
Our dementia carers receive specialist training in person-centred dementia care, communication techniques, and managing changes in behaviour. They understand how to reduce distress, maintain familiar routines, and respond calmly and patiently at every stage of the condition. Consistency is central – we work hard to ensure the same carer attends every visit to minimise confusion and build trust.
Can you support someone who is in the later stages of dementia?
Yes. We provide care across all stages of dementia – including the later stages where the individual requires more intensive support with personal care, nutrition, medication, and mobility. We also work alongside palliative care teams for individuals who wish to remain at home at end of life.
What mental health conditions do you support?
We support adults living with a wide range of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, PTSD, OCD, and dual diagnosis. If you are unsure whether we can support a particular condition, please call us on 07510 916481 to discuss.
Do carers work alongside community mental health teams (CMHTs)?
Yes. We actively work as part of the broader care network. Our carers and management team liaise regularly with GPs, community mental health teams, memory clinics, psychiatrists, social workers, and other professionals involved in the individual’s care. We attend care reviews, share written reports, and escalate any concerns promptly.
What happens if the individual’s condition deteriorates suddenly?
All our carers are trained in recognising signs of deterioration and have clear escalation protocols to follow. In the event of a mental health crisis or significant change in dementia symptoms, the carer will contact our management team and the individual’s GP or CMHT immediately. We never leave an individual at risk.
Is funding available for mental health and dementia care at home?
Yes. Funding may be available through local authority social care assessments, NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC), NHS-funded nursing care, Direct Payments, and personal health budgets. We can support families in understanding what funding they may be entitled to and work directly with social workers and care coordinators.
Have a Different Question?
Our team is happy to answer any questions about our mental health and dementia services, including how to arrange an assessment, what funding is available, and how quickly we can begin.
